MUSIC: DJ PREMIER - HEAVY D TRIBUTE MIX (R.I.P. HEAVY D)

 >> Classics Posted 11/19/2011 by crazyhood.

Last week the Hip Hop community was rocked by the sudden loss of "the over weight lover" Heavy D. His loss was probably the first time many young Hip Hop fans ever heard of Heavy D but for many of us older Hip Hop fans it was a shock to hear of his loss. The truth is we took Heavy D, as most of our legends and pioneers in Hip Hop, for granted. Heavy D represented a light hearted side of Hip Hop that is definitely missing now. I don't mean light hearted as in making pop music for the sake of cross over success but a truthful real music that Heavy D and other artist at the time made that gained them as much respect as any gangsta rapper at the time. Heavy D went on to be a actor and executive while still making music. It's unfortunate that it takes a loss for us to realize the contribution by someone like Heavy D. Below check out the tribute mix DJ Premier did on his Hip Hop Nation satellite radio show.

THROWBACK: MOTHER SUPERIA - MOST OF ALL (MUSIC VIDEO) [DIR. BY GZA]

 >> Classics Posted 11/3/2011 by crazyhood.

I wouldnt doubt if we have already posted this video sometime back but due to lack of memory courtesy of Bacardi brain here ya go! Most of you probably have no idea who Mother Superia is, even those of you residing in her hometown of Miami, Fl. Mother Superia was the prodical MC of Miami's early Hip Hop scene. One of the first Hip Hop artist from Miami signed to a major label. This was the first official single off her never released "Levitation" album. The song features vocals from Redman and the video was directed by Wu-Tang's Gza. For more from her and more of your favorite nineties artist follow Ninetieshiphop on twitter.

 >> Classics Posted 6/28/2011 by crazyhood.

Check out this 'Behind the Music' type series from TV One called 'Unsung' about Hip Hop pioneer Big Daddy Kane. This is a dope piece that accurately covers Big Daddy Kane's career and his legacy. The piece also sheds light on his influence on artist such as Jay Z and Biggie. Spotted at 2dopeboyz. Enjoy!

D-NICE PRESENTS 'TRUE HIP HOP STORIES' - LORDS OF THE UNDERGROUND

 >> Classics Posted 5/22/2011 by crazyhood.

The Homie D-Nice put this out a while back but I just stumbled upon it the other day. Even thought I say that almost every classic 90's Hip Hop record is my joint this is really one of my favorite joints!

NICE & SMOOTH - NO DELAYIN' (MUSIC VIDEO)

 >> Classics Posted 3/2/2011 by crazyhood.

Shout to Monster Films and Vladtv for putting visuals on a classic joint by Nice & Smooth. This is also an idea we here at Crazyhood.com have been wanting to do, which is put visuals to golden era records. Adding visuals to these older records could inspire the youth to bring Hip Hop music back to basics and put it back on it's original trajectory. Then again putting a bunch of older MC's on an HD screen to relive their hay days might not do the job. With that said, the truth is a lot of those same older MC's can out spit most of these younger MC's out today!

THROWBACK JOINT: GANG STARR - EX GIRL TO THE NEXT GIRL (REMIX)

 >> Classics Posted 1/23/2011 by crazyhood.

Here's a gem I uncovered while going through my old cassette tapes. One thing I liked about the cassette era were the maxi-singles. Maxi-singles usually had various versions of the single as well as sometimes having bonus cuts. This joint came off the Dwyck maxi-single. The original of this song happens to be one of my all time favorite Hip Hop tracks. This remix beat in no way competes with the original but if your a collector or maybe a DJ Premier junkie then this is one you need to have. Keep in mind this was ripped off a old cassette. Enjoy!

NAS SHARES HIS PASSION FOR CASSETTE TAPES WITH TDK (VIDEO)

 >> Classics Posted 1/19/2011 by crazyhood.

Today the world wide web gave me a gift, it gave me the gift to reminisce like I so love to do! In this video by TDK, Nas talks about the tape culture and how cassettes were important to him and an entire Hip Hop generation. Everything Nas says in this video is exactly what I did and felt about tapes. To this day I hold on to my collection of at least a thousand cassettes. I also started my musical journey on the backs of cassette tapes. While tweeting, reading and facebooking about this video and Cassettes in general, I remembered I was once sponsored by TDK. I was lucky to get in good with a rep at TDK and he use to send me packs of blank cassettes for me to copy my mixtapes to. There is no way to explain to someone now how important of a role cassettes played and what we truly lost. It seems that with every new technology the true essence of music culture is lost. Hit the jump for a pic of my TDK cassettes and to read what TDK had to say at press time.

PUBLIC ENEMY - WELCOME TO THE TERRORDOME (2011) [MUSIC VIDEO]

 >> Classics Posted 1/13/2011 by crazyhood.

Public Enemy bring new visuals (with a live remix) to an old classic of theirs; Welcome To The Terrordome (2011). A personal favorite of mine as well. A couple months we had a chance to meet and kick it with Chuck D and the crew during a show they did in South Florida. Chuck D even called out Crazy Hoods own Garcia to come rock the mic with him on stage while Flava Flav played the drums. I have a lot of respect for P.E. and what they brought and continue to bring to the game. Few new young artist have matched the intensity that P.E. continues to display on stage and in their music. Here is another video to a more recent cut entitled "Say It Like IT Really Is". Enjoy!

THROWBACK JOINT: MOTHER SUPERIA FEAT. DOZ FUNKY BASTARDZ - ROCK BOTTOM (DUNGEON MIX)

 >> Classics Posted 9/10/2010 by crazyhood.

I have been going crazy trying to find this version of "Rock Bottom" since the tape recorded from the Saturday Night Funk Box broke on me!!! Never mind what anyone else told you, this is Miami's real Hip Hop history! The first of its kind representing this city via Hip Hop not to be confused with Miami Bass which was reppin heavily at the time but not lyrically, not Hip Hop. Shout to DJ Slice for shooting me all the original versions of this track!

THROWBACK JOINT: RUN-DMC - RUN'S HOUSE (MUSIC VIDEO)

 >> Classics Posted 8/15/2010 by crazyhood.

Came across this video and had to post it up. I was a young kid when this came out but I remember the era and the video perfectly captures that time period. This was the transition time for Hip Hop as it approached what some call the "Golden Era". Run DMC were the perfect conduits between the streets to the mainstream!

THROWBACK JOINT: MOTHER SUPERIA - LEVITATION (ALBUM)

 >> Classics Posted 8/12/2010 by crazyhood.

I have been meaning to post this up for a while and when I mean a while I mean for a couple years now! Mother Superia gave me a promo copy of this album some time during 95/96 and unfortunately the CD became even more valuable to me when the album was shelved by Island Music. I use to show off my limited edition CD like it was gold and as of recent that CD has gone missing!!! For those who don't know who Mother Superia is, she was Miami Hip Hop's golden child who was set to take the country by storm. She was suppose to expose Miami's thriving Hip Hop scene and showcase the talent that was ripe to explode! Unfortunately the music industry had other plans! Shout to Mother Superia now known as Savana! This album features production by L.E.S., KRS ONE, Redman and of course homegrown Miami producers. Enjoy a piece of Miami Hip Hop history! Hit the jump for the track listing and download link. Shout to the305 for the link.

THROWBACK JOINT: PUBLIC ENEMY - DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE (VIDEO)

 >> Classics Posted 7/30/2010 by crazyhood.

You would think with all the avenues to find information nowadays people wouldn't fall for the hype anymore. I personally feel people fall for the hype more now than then. Maybe I am just being a grumpy old man! Make sure to check us (¡Mayday! & Garcia) performing on the same stage with Public Enemy September 7th at Revolution Live!

DJ JAZZY JEFF + MICK BOOGIE - SUMMERTIME (MIXTAPE)

If you want to hear what a mixtape is suppose to sound like and why all us OG 90's enthusiast hold on to the "Golden Era" of Hip Hop, then just take a listen to this! This mixtape is chalk full of classic records and who better to put something like this together but DJ Jazzy Jeff & Mick Boogie. Not much more has to be said just hit the jump for the track listing and download link. Shout to Datpiff for this one!

THROWBACK JOINT: 2PAC - HOLLER IF YA HEAR ME (VIDEO)

 >> Classics Posted 6/16/2010 by crazyhood.

Before the clock strikes 12, I felt it was only right to pay homage to Pacs birthday. This is one of my favorite 2Pac joints. This is before the hype, before the bangin, before the set trippin, and before Hip Hop changed forever. This is the 2Pac I will always remember. Happy Birthday homie! R.I.P. 2Pac aka Tupac Shakur
